The Division Overview
Tom Clancy's The Division is a third person-shooter MMO that features RPG and survival elements. The Division shares many features with Bungie's Destiny, including a peaceful hub zone, loot-driven gameplay, character roles, and a massive open world that is shared between players. What sets it apart is its PvP system and its backstory. The game's PvP takes place in Dark Zones, abandoned military points that are littered with high quality loot for the taking. The catch to Dark Zones is that any loot received in the area, dropped either from AI enemies or other players gone rogue, must be taken away on a helicopter to become permanent fixtures in your inventory, forcing players to stand together in one area and wait for their helicopter to arrive. The Division's backstory treads into gritty realism territory, focusing on a modern world in a state of total panic after the collapse of the government thanks to the spread of a pandemic that must be investigated by the player.
The Division Key Features:
- Open World – enter a persistent and dynamic open world environment that is built specifically for co-op and exploration.
- Character Customization – harness a variety of new technologies as part of your character's arsenal, equipping loot from fallen enemies to suit your playstyle.
- Dark Zone PvP – team up with other players to take down AI and enemies players, and extract loot via helicopter in the center of Manhattan in the game's Dark Zone.
- High Production Value – powered by the Snowdrop Engine, the game features highly realistic graphics and smooth open world gameplay.
- Loot-Driven Gameplay – unlike other Tom Clancy games, gameplay is centered around the pursuit of better loot drops and character upgrades.

Development History / Background:
The Division is developed by a variety of studios under the Ubisoft umbrella, each dealing with a variety of different game elements, including Ubisoft Massive, Ubisoft Reflections, Red Storm Entertainment, and Ubisoft Annecy. The game is being published by Ubisoft, and was announced during E3 2013. The Division was initially slated to be a console exclusive game. However, other platforms were not ruled out. A mobile companion game was planned that allowed players to control drones to help their fellow players. Ubisoft asked PC gamers to show interest in the game by g a petition, eventually garnering enough for Ubisoft to announce a PC release on August 20, 2013. The game was originally intended to be released in 2014, and was pushed back to 2015 on May 15, 2014, due to the game's engine not being completed. The game was delayed again in 2015, slating its release for mid-2016, and its mobile companion game was cancelled, due to perceived unfair PvP advantages.
