Wurm Unlimited Brings Wurm Online To A Local Setting
With the abundance of survival games and Minecraft clones out there, it should come as no surprise that the team at Code Club, ed by publisher Plug In Digital, decided to bring Wurm Online to a more local setting. And yet, here I am, shocked at this near-unprecedented move of taking an MMO and carbon copying it for serverless play. As they put it themselves in today's announcement, "[Wurm Unlimited] is pretty much a full copy of the current MMO engine with Steam integration." The difference is that you will be able to play offline and even host your own persistent servers.
It is quite the intriguing move, taking Wurm Online and making a buy-to-play, master server-less version of it. The goal of this release is to "present the Wurm world to new players and also help players who never got into the game to experience it in a more relaxed way." This means that players can finally experience the game without worrying about losing a chance at owning land. Players will even be able to become Game Masters within the confines of their own servers. Given all of that, it will be interesting to see how this release affects the core subscription game, if at all.
Wurm Unlimited will launch on October 21st. The price has not yet been decided. To learn more, head over to the Steam Store page.
