The Crew Players Review Bomb Sequels, Says ‘If Buying Isn’t Owning, Piracy Isn’t Stealing’

Now that The Crew has been completely wiped from all storefronts and libraries, the multiplayer racing game’s fans have resorted to review-bombing The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest in protest of Ubisoft’s decision to revoke all access to the original game following its closure.

Stop Killing Games campaign founder Ross Scott took note of the review bombings but washed his hands of them in a recent tweet. “I’ve heard The Crew 2 and Motorfest are being review-bombed,” he tweeted. “To clarify, that’s not a goal of the campaign, but I don’t care either; people can rate games whatever they want.”

The Crew 2 is apparently receiving the brunt of the negative reviews which has tanked its recent review ranking on Steam to “Mostly Negative”, although all-time reviews still place it at “Very Positive”. Most reviews center around Ubisoft Director of Subscriptions Phillipe Tremblay’s controversial statement earlier this year that players should accept the fact that they don’t actually own the games that they purchased with their hard-earned money.

“If buying isn’t owning, piracy isn’t stealing,” reads one top-voted review on the sequel’s Steam page.

With The Crew 2 now in maintenance mode, it’s likely only a matter of time before it meets the same fate as its predecessor. We can only hope that Ubisoft gets the message and stops revoking licenses for live service games that it sends to the graveyard.
