Temtem Players Up In Arms Over Temtem Swarm And Persistent Lack Of New Content

This week saw Crema Games announce another Temtem Swarm that unsurprisingly resulted in massive backlash from the monster-taming MMO’s community.

Like Temtem’s Version 1.0 launch. This was further compounded by the fact that Temtem Showdown ended up being a huge disappointment and was shut down just six months after its launch.

Temtem is now being review-bombed on Steam as s complain about the lack of expansions and post-launch content, heavy microtransactions, and updates that seem to suggest that the developers have all but abandoned the game.

“Killed by lazy devs who were willing to market it as an MMO until it was time to it as an MMO,” wrote one Steam . “There will be no expansions because the don’t like the thought of content being locked behind paywalls, but they also don’t want to do it for free.”

“Post-game is mainly PvP-focused and is also microtransaction hell on top of a very grindy battle for mediocre rewards,” wrote another. “Devs managed to get every aspect of a “cash-cow” game correct in their way of handling but now lack the players to really see a profit in this design.”

Crema Games CEO Enrique Paños Montoya responded to the recent flood of negative reviews with a statement on Discord, maintaining that they’ve always been vocal about the unsustainability of post-launch content for Temtem.

“In our journey with Early Access, we learned how much it costs to make an island and new Temtem, how many people it brings back, and how many it retains. We have already explained many times that it is not feasible to continue.” he said. “If you really want Temtem franchise to live on and more games to be made, be it spin-offs or Temtem 2, what you would really ask for is for us to stop improving Temtem 1 and start working on something new. As of now, we are improving Temtem 1 just for you, even if it never seems enough.”

“Temtem is still being updated, Temtem is still being improved, but we can’t give you what you want at the pace you want, or exactly what you want (not in this game),” he added. “Temtem has delivered what it promised and a little more. And I understand that you may not like the final result, but you have to understand that it is not feasible to create infinite content or change the foundations of the game itself.”

Players took the statement to mean that development has well and truly ended for Temtem, prompting even more backlash and another statement from the studio.

“We’ve found there might be a little misunderstanding,” the studio told GamesRadar. “We are still working on Temtem, it will receive more updates as we are still working on the game. Temtem: Swarm, our latest announcement, is being co-developed with GGTech. We just want to make sure it’s clear that Crema is working on both projects at the same time. We haven’t stop focusing on Temtem.”

Incidentally, the studio just rolled out a small update for Temtem which introduced a long list of fixes and balance adjustments but still without new content. That being said, it did fix the long-standing issue with replays and made it so that TemCards can now be swapped using Feathers instead of LumaDrops. Yay.
