Path Of Exile’s Lake Of Kalandra Adjustments Strike A Nerve With The Community
Following the release of a major update for an MMO comes the challenge of fixing and balancing the newly released content. Oftentimes, these changes don’t sit well with the community, especially when it comes to reducing rewards as is the case for Lake of Kalandra expansion.
Grinding Gear Games recently published a dev blog detailing their plans to adjust various Lake of Kalandra content which didn’t sit well with the free-to-play ARPG’s players. These include a reduction in the rare monster spawns and the removal of a massive bonus to loot quantity and rarity from mobs in the new challenge league. To offset the changes, the developers plan to improve the loot gained from rare monsters that do spawn and “moderately” increase loot quantity from mobs.
“Our intention with these changes is to modify certain league content that was out-of-line with other content so that it has a similar reward profile. These changes are important, but we understand they have reduced overall rewards that players receive,” Grinding Gear explained. “We are going to compensate elsewhere, but we don’t want to just increase the raw number of items that are dropped. Most items are immediately filtered out. We want to increase the number of relevant items that drop.”
Regardless of their intentions, the announcement has struck a nerve with the community and Lead Developer Chris Wilson’s reposting of the dev blog on Reddit is now his most downvoted post on the Path of Exile subreddit.
The good news is that the team will also increase the quantity of Lifeforce rewards granted by the Sacred Grove, taper the difficulty of Archnemesis mods, and increasing the rewards for both League and non-League encounters in higher difficulty maps in Lake of Kalandra.
The changes will be rolled out separately over the next few days along with the official patch notes. Lake of Kalandra will also be arriving on PlayStation and Xbox later this week on August 25th.
Meanwhile, Grinding Gear has launched a new mystery box without duplicate microtransactions called the Kalandra Mystery Box which can be purchased on the Path of Exile online shop. You can check out the box’s contents in the new trailer below.
