Life Is Feudal: MMO Is Back On Steam With A Subscription And Veterans Are Up In Arms

The MMO portion of January 2021 following a legal battle with its then-publisher Xsolla that drained its funding for the game.

True to its mission of rebuilding and relaunching failed games, Long Tale brought the hardcore medieval sandbox title back to life in June 2023, fortunately without the crypto and blockchain features that the studio is also known for, and now it’s back on Steam.

The relaunch version features plenty of improvements over its predecessor, with new blueprints and structures, updated character skills, more balanced professions, integrated voice chat, and more. The team’s 2024 roap also reveals plans to introduce new arenas, a new map, rebalanced crafting and game economy, and launches on other storefronts and platforms.

The biggest change to the game, however, is its switch from free-to-play to a monthly subscription model. In line with the change, Long Tale Games will be compensating players of the original game for any purchases they made with LiF Coins that can be exchanged for subscription time. Veterans who have the game in their Steam libraries will also get a free month while newcomers will get 7 days free.

Unsurprisingly, veterans aren’t happy with the new business model and are currently review bombing the game on Steam. It’s worth mentioning that the game was buy-to-play before it went free-to-play and some players are naturally complaining about having to pay a monthly subscription after they’ve already purchased the game, regardless of any compensation.

In any case, Life is Feudal: MMO is back with a brand-new trailer and a flood of negative reviews to show for it.
