EverQuest 2 Is Taking Players Back To 2006 In Its Origins Time-Locked Progression Server

EverQuest 2 is getting a new time-locked progression server that promises to be unlike any other TLE’s before it. Darkpaw Games boss Jenn Chan offers more information on the new server which they’ve aptly named Origins, seeing as it will take players back to the free-to-play MMORPG’s early years in 2006.

Players who the new TLE server will start their journeys in The Shattered Lands era with no expansions unlocked. They’ll be plucked from the sea by the good Captain Varlos and will be dropped on an island where they’ll be given age to their respective race’s starting points in Qeynos or Freeport.

“Systems will seem less complex, stats and gameplay will be reflective of the 2006 era, and there will be more focus on grouping with that old school MMO feel,” notes Chan. “If you did not have the chance to play back then, or just want to revisit for nostalgia, then this server will be on your list to play.”

Chan didn’t offer a launch timeline for the new server, but players will get a chance to take it for a spin when beta testing begins on May 2.

Speaking of beta testing, Darkpaw Rising. The update will send players off to a gnoll-infested underground cavern where they’ll find the Splitpaw and Sabertooth clans united under the Darkpaw banner.

“You will not need to own the last expansion to play this Game Update,” says Chan. “This game update has Tradeskill content, adventure, quests, collections for all characters of at least level 10. This is also the optimal time to make sure that Direct X works well on your PC. The Beta on Darkpaw Rising and Direct X 11 ends on April 9, when they will both go Live!”
