Elite Dangerous Console Players Will Get A Free Copy For PC, Update 12 Arrives This Month
Frontier Developments offers an update to assuage the Elite Dangerous community’s concerns about console transfers and the bare-bones development roap for 2022.
First up on the docket is console transfers, which, as the studio previously revealed, will now allow players to transfer most of their in-game possessions and not just their credits. The studio also revealed that players who bought the game on console will get a free copy for PC. There’s still no definite timeline on when the transfers will start but the team reiterates that it will be done within a limited-time window and that they’ll notify console players well ahead of its start.
As for the 2022 development roap, Update 12 is due for release sometime this month which will focus on optimizing the game and fixing known issues. A new mission variant will also be arriving with the update, the details of which will be shared in the coming weeks.
Update 13 and 14 is slated to roll out in August and November, respectively, and will come with even more performance improvements as well as a new narrative thread to follow. “[…] Rest assured that this is more than solely the continuation of GalNet. The closer we get to those updates, the more we can reveal, but it's too early right now. I would very much recommend that you keep up to date with the current happenings in the Elite Dangerous universe, as the Azimuth Saga continues to evolve,” said Community Manager Zac Cocken.
Players can also expect a key feature overhaul coming in 2023 although the team is still mum on what exactly that feature is. “[…] Although I cannot give you any hints as to what this is, I hope it will help allay some concerns that there is no more content coming to Elite Dangerous,” said Cocken. “There's a lot still to come, and the new major narrative phase will have a part to play in the future, too.”
