Diablo 4 Drops In-Depth Explainer Video On Season 4’s Loot Revamp And The Pit

The Diablo 4 dev team continues to talk up the big item and loot revamp coming in Season 4 with a comprehensive developer video that builds on last week’s teaser. As previously revealed, Season 4: Loot Reborn will simplify item mechanics by narrowing down the current base affixes while also introducing a new enhancement system to still grant some flexibility for fine-tuning builds.

“Become the hero of your choosing. With a newly improved itemization system, the power is in your hands to craft the weapons of your dreams. Temper your gear with a new crafting system to face down hordes of enemies in the updated Helltides. Achieve the pinnacle of your build through Masterworking and try your hand at the daunting challenge of the Pit.”

The team explains that items will drop with primary and secondary stats as well as base affixes that will be geared more towards classes rather than specific builds. Items with greater affixes that are 150% more powerful than their base variants will also have a rare chance to drop from mobs and bosses or can also be purchased from Obol vendors or traded with other players.

Players who want to tweak their builds will be able to do so using crafted items that can be imbued with bonus stats using the new Tempering system, and once fully tempered, can be upgraded further via the Masterworking system.

The developers also talked about The Pit, a new endgame activity with mechanics similar to Season 2’s Abattoir of Zir. The Pit will be open to players who have completed a Nightmare difficulty dungeon and possess runeshards. It’s an extremely brutal dungeon with randomized layouts and mob spawns, a 15-minute timer, and harsh death penalties.

Season 4: Loot Reborn is set to begin on May 14 at 10 a.m. PST. In the meantime, you can learn more about the changes in the video below.
