Blizzard Cancels BlizzCon 2024, The Same Year That Warcraft Turns 30 Years Old
With Warcraft celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and World of Warcraft its 20th, you’re probably expecting a big celebration at BlizzCon this year. You’re in for a big disappointment though as Blizzard has decided to cancel this year’s fan convention altogether.
“After careful consideration over the last year, we at Blizzard have made the decision not to hold BlizzCon in 2024,” Blizzard announced. “This decision was not made lightly as BlizzCon remains a very special event for all of us, and we know many of you look forward to it. While we’re approaching this year differently and as we have explored different event formats in the past, rest assured that we are just as excited as ever to bring BlizzCon back in future years.”
However, that’s not saying that there won’t be a big birthday bash this year. In fact, Blizzard is planning multiple in-person events all over the globe in lieu of BlizzCon. The World of Warcraft and Diablo teams will also be making an appearance at Gamescom 2024 and Dreamhack conventions where they’ll be hyping up WoW’s The War Within and Diablo 4’s Vessel of Hatred expansions.
Whether Blizzard will make good on their promise to bring back BlizzCon in the future is still unclear given the poor turnout at last year’s event.
