Kakao Games Is Shutting Down ArcheAge In North America And Europe In June

ArcheAge had a pretty good run all things considered but the sandbox MMORPG will soon be closing its doors in a few short months amid dwindling player numbers. Kakao Games will officially be taking the North American and European servers offline on June 27 just a few months shy of its 10th anniversary.

“After discussing the performance of ArcheAge with XL Games at length, we have concluded that we’re no longer able to provide the MMORPG we envisioned,” Kakao said. “The declining number of active players means the game’s content is no longer accessible in the way it used to be, and the experience of it is different from what was originally intended.”

Refunds will only be given for any purchases made within the last two weeks, but the cash shop will remain open for the time being for those who want to spend any currency left in their s. All player data will be deleted two weeks after the game officially shuts down but your Kakao itself will remain active.

With Archeage 2 still a long way off, players are naturally wondering whether they’ll be able to play in other regions. Unfortunately, those will have IP blocks in place. Unless you’re willing to jump through a few hoops to access them, you’re probably better off playing on one of the rogue servers which have already seen a surge in player numbers since the announcement.
