Travian: Kingdoms Overview
Travian: Kingdoms is a free-to-play, browser-based MMORTS that centers on city-building and resource management. It is essentially version 5.0 of the popular 2004 game Travian, sharing most of its core mechanics, graphic style, and playerbase with Kingdoms, but with graphical updates— solving the issue of its outdated UI and adding more customization features along with the addition of the King and Governor roles. As its name implies, Travian: Kingdoms adds kingdoms to the tried-and-true Travian formula, allowing players to select either King or Governor as they begin the game, on top of being able to select from the three factions present in the original Travian: the Gauls, the Teutons and the Romans. Setting it apart from the original Travian, Kings are tasked with organizing the military in their kingdom to expand territory, taking a leadership role more suited to experienced players, whereas Governors are tasked with acquiring Stolen Goods from robber towns and expanding their economy and resources to help the King, which is more suited to new players. Players can also Secret Societies which function as secretive clans, or form an Alliance than bands together up to 7 Kingdoms in an attempt to complete the game’s end-goal, building a World Wonder.

Release Date (Open Beta): December 8, 2009
Travian: Kingdoms is developed and published by German developer Travian Games. The game was initially released in closed alpha and beta as Travian V, discovering throughout its testing and that the game should be a stand-alone rather than a direct update to Travian, acting as a separate game rather than a direct successor of Travian’s current iteration, 4.4. It was then named Travian: Kingdoms, which will be developed alongside Travian 4.4 to expand its repertoire and offer players a different game experience. Travian: Kingdoms will also be available in app form in the future, allowing players to access their kingdoms on the go, available for iOS and Android.
