Development History / Background:
Torchlight 3 is a buy-to-play 3D medieval fantasy MMOARPG developed by Echtra Games and published by Perfect World Entertainment. The game was first announced on August 9, 2018 as Torchlight Frontiers and was initially planned to be free-to-play with microtransactions. It was renamed to Torchlight 3 in January 2020 following the studio’s decision to remove some of the games MMO-like features in favor of more linear ARPG mechanics along with a change in the game’s business model. The studio held several rounds of Alpha and Beta tests from late January to late May of 2020 before launching into Steam Early Access on June 13, 2020.
