Dragon Quest X Overview
Dragon Quest X: Awakening of the Five Tribes online is the tenth game and only MMORPG in the popular series of JRPGs Dragon Quest. You start the game as a human in a single-player prologue, during which your village is attacked by Nelgel, the Lord of Hell. During the attack your soul is forced out of your body and into the body of another character that is used in the MMORPG portion of the game. Choose one of six varied races—Human, Dwarf, Elf, Ogre, Puklipo, and Weddie—and one of six jobs—Warrior, Mage, Martial Artist, Minstrel, Priest, and Thief—that can be switched between freely and set out on your journey. Combat is a combination of traditional MMORPG combat and the active time battle system seen in many JRPGs; you have to wait a certain amount of time between turns, but turns will stack if you wait long enough. A highly customizable housing system allows you to create your perfect fantasy house. Navigate your way through the cinematic story to stop Nelgel and save the world.

Development History / Background:
Dragon Quest X was first announced at a press conference in January 2009, during which designer Yuji Horii had hinted that it was halfway complete at the time. In April 2011, Horii announced that the game would be done by the end of the year. It was formally unveiled during a Ustream livestream on September 5th, 2011. Beta applications opened in November 2011, with the Wii Beta beginning on February 23, 2012. Beta testers were given the Beta version on a disc, a USB memory stick, and a manual. The initial launch occurred on August 2, 2012, at which time it was available exclusively for Nintendo Wii. Wii U, Windows, Android, iOS, and Nintendo 3DS versions would follow at later times. On December 5, 2013, an expansion called “The Sleeping Hero and the Guided Allies,” also known as Version 2, was released. A second expansion, titled “Legend of the Ancient Dragon,” was released on April 30, 2015. A third expansion has been announced and will add a seventh race, Dragon.
