Albion Online Brings New PvP Dungeon and Revamped Beginner Experience with Abyssal Depths Update

Sandbox Interactive is shaking things up in Albion Online with the Abyssal Depths update, set to launch on June 30. The update brings a fresh PvP dungeon under Caerleon aimed at seasoned players, as well as a much-needed overhaul to the game’s onboarding for newcomers. Albion Online, the cross-platform sandbox MMORPG, has long been praised for its player-driven economy and open-world gameplay, but steep learning curves have often proved intimidating for new players.

The highlight for veterans is a new extraction-style dungeon: a fast, competitive battleground where teams of two or three fight both monsters and other players as the environment closes in, forcing action and quick decisions. In recent years, extraction shooter and PvPvE modes have become increasingly popular in multiplayer games, making this addition timely for the game’s audience.

Meanwhile, new players can look forward to a reworked introduction with more guidance than before. Instead of being dropped into the deep end, beginners now get a structured tutorial experience, complete with clearer objectives and a helpful journal to steer their early gameplay. The entire 'early game flow' is being improved.

Abyssal Depths Update Key Features:

  • A new collapsing, PvP-focused dungeon beneath Caerleon for small groups, blending monster combat with player-versus-player action and unique rewards
  • Extraction-inspired PvPvE gameplay, where quick bursts of action and tactical decision-making are central
  • An expanded tutorial and post-tutorial experience, integrated with the Albion Journal, to provide structure and goals for newcomers
  • More gradual onboarding to help players understand core systems and mechanics
