Bierzerkers is developed and published by Shield Break Studios, an independent game developer founded by veterans from a variety of AAA game studios that include Riot Games, and Activision. Bierzerkers is their first project, announced on August 5, 2014. The game was released to Steam Early Access on July 9, 2015 as a buy-to-play title, which unlocked all available game content. After listening to the community, the developers decided to turn Bierzerkers into a varation of the free-to-play model upon its launch on February 25, 2016, offering the Raider character for free with the rest of the characters as paid DLC. Its launch removed all but one of the game modes initially found in the Early Access version of the game, due to balance issues. April 15, 2017 marked the last update by the developers. The game has been abandoned since then with 0 players active and no notice by the developer.
