Wayfinder Plans To Add Caps To Player Inventories To Help Reduce Server Load

Airship Syndicate is still trying to come up with ways to solve latency issues and crashes that Wayfinder players have been struggling with since the multiple server-side updates, the developers are now planning to revamp the inventory system to drastically reduce lag, decrease loading times, and improve overall performance.

“Right now when you enter the Highlands, Lost Zones, or anywhere else in the game the servers are loading your information and every other player’s inventory that currently is unlimited,” Airship Syndicate explained on Discord. “This is incredibly taxing on the servers. It also is causing lots of lag and UI issues resulting in a less than optimal experience for players when it’s trying to load hundreds and hundreds of points of data.”

Their solution is to put a hard cap on how many accessories and echoes can be stored in a character’s inventory. The cap will encourage players to sell unneeded accessories and break down echoes into dust which can then be infused into the echoes that they decide to keep which will significantly reduce server load.

The team assures players that they won’t lose anything. Once the update arrives, they’ll be prompted to sell excess accessories or break down excess echoes. They’re also planning to deploy more server-side updates over the next two weeks which should help reduce disconnection problems and result in more significant improvements once the new inventory system goes live.
