Visionary Realms’ ‘247’ Pantheon Spinoff Might Not Be A Standalone Game After All
Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen extraction spinoff called 247 that will be developed alongside the original game for “testing purposes.” As you might have guessed, the announcement didn’t sit well with the game’s community, more so its backers, who’ve been waiting on the finished product for nearly a decade now.
Visionary Realms pitches the spinoff once again in its October newsletter, acknowledging the community’s concerns and saying that it’s still looking into the possibility of selling 247 as a standalone game.
“Do we intend to sell 247 as a stand-alone title? The answer to that is a solid ‘maybe’. While we are absolutely preparing for that option, we are still gathering information from our players and from the market before we make a final decision,” the studio said.
The team said that crowdfunding has slowed down and that if they did decide to sell the game separately, it would help speed up Pantheon’s development and get it significantly closer to launch if it didn’t crash and burn. Should that happen, they’ll likely scrap it altogether.
“Until we lock this in as something we are committed to, we have not finalized any of these details. Development of Pantheon is not stopping in any way, shape or form,” assured the devs. “In fact, should 247 prove to be popular with players, it could become a model for Pantheon’s PvP mode, available to all Pantheon players at any time. The projects are designed to work together in tandem, symbiotically.”
Visionary Realms also revealed a little bit more information on 247’s gameplay loop. “Players begin in Tazrin’s Gaze, grab tasks from one of eleven Watchers to build faction, and then enter a timed instance of Pantheon,” they explained. “Players can choose either a PvE or a PvP mission instance. Once in Terminus, they can either focus on the task given, or simply spend their time exploring, grouping, gathering for crafting, or otherwise playing Pantheon as they so choose. But they must keep an eye on the timer and make it to the extraction point without dying, or they risk losing their gear. If they do die, a fallen player’s corpse can be looted by others. This play mode creates a sense of urgency and real danger.”
Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen backers who’ve pledged $750 or more will be granted access to the spinoff while it’s still in testing. Those who’ve pledged at least $250 will be able to jump in later this year. There’s currently no timeline for when 247 will go live but it looks like it’s already affected Pantheon’s progress, despite Visionary Realms insistence to the contrary, with the fantasy MMORPG expected to resume testing sometime next year.
