Rainbow Six Player Sentenced To Three Years Of Community Service For Ubisoft Swatting Incident

Ubisoft Montreal developers faced a terrifying ordeal in 2020 when their office building became the target of a form of harassment commonly employed by the online gaming community known as “swatting.” Police stormed the publisher’s office upon receiving a fake call about a hostage threat, prompting a lengthy police search and leaving frightened employees to barricade themselves on the building's roof.

The individual responsible for the hoax, 22-year-old Yanni Ouahioune, has now been sentenced to three years of community service and will be forced to pay the victims an undisclosed amount. He’ll also be required to receive treatment for a mental health condition that he’s reportedly been struggling with for years and get a job, or at least undergo training for one.

The Ubisoft swatting is just one incident in Ouahioune’s troubled history with the online gaming community, although it might just be the worst thing he’s done to date. He’s been banned by Ubisoft over 80 times for toxicity in Rainbow Six Siege, pleaded guilty to a series of DDoS attacks against a French government office, and threatened Minecraft developer Mojang, all of which were taken into during his sentencing.
