Ubisoft’s Live Games ‘Performed Solidly’, Promises ‘Meaningful’ Lineup Of New Titles
The past couple of months have been rough on Ubisoft as the company reports a massive drop in its net bookings for the third quarter of its 2022-2023 fiscal year. While the company was able to accrue a total of €1.5 billion in year-to-date sales, its net bookings for back catalog games over the same period fell by 27%, or roughly €1.43 billion.
It’s live service games, however, saw increased engagement including Rainbow Six Siege which set a record high for daily average revenue per back in December following the release of Operation Solar Raid. The French publisher also expects Mario+Rabbids: Sparks of Hope to be a “long-term seller” after being named as the Best Simulation/Strategy game at The Game Awards 2022.
“We are prioritizing our efforts on big brands and long-lasting Live games,” said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. “While the macro environment impacted the video game market and our Q3 results, our established franchises and Live games have performed solidly.”
Ubisoft also expects it to be a big year for The Division franchise with its 4th anniversary looming on the horizon and Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence set to launch this year on Android and iOS devices. The studio is also working on a new PvEvP survival shooter for PC and consoles called Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland and is looking to bring the franchise as a whole to a wider global audience.
Ubisoft fans can also look forward to the release of The Crew Motorfest, a.k.a. The Crew 3, and arena shooter XDefiant later this year.
“Fueling our expectations for strong revenue growth, next fiscal year will see the release of a meaningful line-up, including new titles within the Assassin’s Creed, Avatar, Rainbow Six and The Division universes,” said Chief Financial Officer Frederick Duguet. “In the coming months, players will have the opportunity to test and discover several of our long-lasting Live Games, including The Crew Motorfest, Skull and Bones, as well as, starting today, our first cross-platform technical test for XDefiant.”
