Ubisoft Acquires Brawlhalla Developer Mammoth Games
Brawlhalla developer Mammoth Games was acquired by French gaming giant Ubisoft this week for an undisclosed sum. Given the game's massive popularity (averages 6,300 concurrent s on Steam alone) it was a figure well into the millions. While there's no official figure just yet, I predict it was in the $50-$125M range. Brawlhalla for those that haven't heard of it is a free to play 2D Smash Brothers like competitive fighting games.
Blue Mammoth Games is a relatively small gaming studio based in Atlanta Georgia and only has 21 total employees. The game is consistently one of the most played titles on Steam and the PS4 and has been enjoying quite a bit of success on the eSports front.
"The team at Blue Mammoth Games is expert at developing and running scalable, competitive, multiplayer online games, and they'll be a great addition to Ubisoft's network of studios," said Laurent Detoc, President of Ubisoft NCSA. "With Brawlhalla, we're getting a hugely popular and highly-profitable title that aligns with our strategy of expanding our audience and providing players with long-lasting, entertaining gaming experiences."
"We're looking forward to leveraging Ubisoft's expertise and resources to continue developing and ing Brawlhalla for the long term, and to benefiting from their help in bringing the game to new players," said Matthew Woomer and Lincoln Hamilton, Blue Mammoth Games founders.
