Terraria Dives Into Mod , Unity Removal, And Work-In-Progress Board Game
It’s been eight years since Re-Logic originally planned to end development for Terraria, but the updates still keep on coming, with another one coming in the near future. Apparently, the multiplayer survival sandbox title is still selling so well that they’re not quite ready to abandon it just yet.
In its latest state of the game blog, Re-Logic revealed that it’s nearly done with Patch 1.4.5 which will feature a new fairy pet with the ability to chop down trees, albeit not as efficiently as an actual player. The studio also talked up the PC version’s in-depth mod system, the nearly 100,000 mods available through Steam Workshop, and recent improvements to the tModLoader tool.
Speaking of abandoning things, the team revealed that it’s considering removing Unity-powered portions from the mobile version, likely due to the controversial new runtime fees that will be charged for every installation of a Unity game. They do note that it’s not a done deal yet and they may very well change their minds down the line.
“As of today, we are only laying out plans, we have not decided if we will or will not make the shift at this point. If that changes, we will let everyone know,” Re-Logic said. “If the need arises for us to undertake such a swap, we do expect that it will take a bit of time. This would delay any in-progress update by however long that takes – our current best-guess being in the two-ish months timeframe.”
Re-Logic concluded the newsletter with a preview of the Terraria board game which includes an early look at sculpts of some of the survivalbox’s more infamous bosses and cover art. The studio will be offering a playable demo of the tabletop game during the Essen Spiel convention which will be held in from October 5-8.
