Sony Unveils New Tiered PlayStation Plus Subscription Service
Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially unveiled their version of Microsoft’s Xbox Game which combines PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now into the all-new PlayStation Plus. The announcement comes just days after anonymous sources leaked information about the new subscription service.
The new PlayStation Plus subscription will offer three hip tiers: PlayStation Plus Essential ($9.99/month), PlayStation Plus Extra ($14.99/month), and PlayStation Plus ($17.99).
Essential offers the same benefits of the current PlayStation Plus subscription with no changes for existing subscribers. These include two able games per month, online multiplayer access, cloud storage for saved games, and exclusive discounts. Extra adds a library of up to 400 able PS4 and PS5 games on top of the basic perks, while adds another 340 including PS3 titles and classic games from the original PlayStation, PS2, and PSP. subscribers will also be able to stream games on PS4, PS5, and PC. They’ll also have access to time-limited trials for certain games so they can try them out before making a purchase.
With the launch of the new service, PlayStation Now will no longer be offered as a standalone subscription. Existing subscribers will automatically be migrated to PlayStation Plus with no increase to their subscription fees.
“The new Extra and tiers represent a major evolution for PlayStation Plus,” says Sony. “With these tiers, our key focus is to ensure that the hundreds of games we offer will include the best quality content that sets us apart.”
“We’re working closely with our imaginative developers from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners to include some of the best gaming experiences available with a library that will be regularly refreshed,” they add. “At launch, we plan to include titles such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal.”
The new PlayStation Plus is slated for launch in June in Asia, followed by North America, Europe and everywhere else that PlayStation Plus is currently being offered. Sony promises to reveal more information soon. You can also head over to the PlayStation official site to learn more about the new subscription service.
