Path Of Exile’s Player Count Surges Tenfold Following Its Crucible Expansion Launch

Crucible expansion. The MMOARPG’s Steam player count skyrocketed to ten times its usual number just a few hours after the expansion’s launch, peaking at 211,637 concurrent players and setting a new all-time peak concurrency record.

The launch rush has died down quite a bit, but the game is still seeing an average daily peak concurrency of around 140,000 players as of this writing. It’s also worth noting that Path of Exile’s player numbers have traditionally spiked following the release of expansions but never to this extent.

There’s a lot going on in Crucible to warrant a mass influx of players, not the least of which is the new Crucible Challenge League and its accompanying Crucible Forge system. The expansion also revamped the Atlas ive Trees and introduced new Atlas Gateways for fast travel between Atlas nodes in addition to a whole host of new content.

While we’ll probably see a boatload of adjustments made to all of the new things that came with the Crucible expansion, it’s probably safe to say that it’s polished enough to catch the attention of the game’s community right from the get-go.

Of course, other factors might have influenced the recent surge in the game’s playerbase, including withdrawal from last month’s record-breaking Diablo 4 weekend beta tests. Path of Exile has been one of Diablo’s biggest competitors since it launched in October 2013 and ARPG fans might have decided to flock to the next best thing to scratch their Diablo 4 itch.
