NEXON Celebrates 30th Anniversary at G-STAR 2024 with 5 New Titles
Nexon’s presence at G-STAR 2024, held in Busan, South Korea, highlights the company's plans for the future while acknowledging its legacy in the gaming industry. Marking its 30th anniversary, Nexon is giving fans a look at new titles, enhanced gaming experiences, and nods to its long-running franchises.
Celebrating three decades in gaming, Nexon’s booth features a “30th Anniversary Zone” with fan-favorite titles like The Kingdom of the Winds, Mabinogi, and Tales Weaver, catering to fans of Nexon’s long-standing franchises.
Titles and Playable Demos
Nexon is showcasing four new titles with live demos for G-STAR attendees, offering a hands-on experience across a range of genres. Here’s what players can expect:
SUPERVIVE: This MOBA-inspired battle royale introduces a two-player team format and emphasizes fast-paced, strategic gameplay with 14 unique characters. While it does offer some new mechanics—like aerial combat and sound-based strategies—its success may depend on how well it distinguishes itself in an already saturated battle royale market. SUPERVIVE is set for a global open beta on November 20, so players won’t have to wait long to see how it holds up.
Project OVERKILL: Set in the Dungeon Fighter universe, Project OVERKILL brings the franchise’s intense action into a 3D RPG format. The demo includes story-based quests and high-difficulty dungeons, allowing fans to connect with familiar characters while navigating a different game style. With Nexon’s history of expanding Dungeon Fighter into various formats, it will be interesting to see if Project OVERKILL resonates with both longtime fans and new players.
The First Berserker: Khazan: This hardcore action RPG, set in the same universe, explores the story of a character named Khazan on a revenge journey. The game uses a cel-shaded art style and emphasizes a more violent, gritty tone. Nexon has previewed this title at other gaming events this year, and with G-STAR showcasing more details, The First Berserker could be a sign of Nexon pushing into darker, more mature storytelling.
Gensei Online: A casual RPG based on the Gensei Suikoden IP, Gensei Online takes a lighter approach, with missions, mini-games, and character-driven combat. Nexon’s decision to include this title among the lineup suggests an effort to reach more casual players, but how it stands up against similar mobile-friendly RPGs remains to be seen.
Sneak Peek: ARC Raiders
Nexon is also unveiling a trailer for ARC Raiders, a sci-fi survival shooter featuring PvPvE elements. While the game promises a new spin on the shooter genre, details are still light, and Nexon appears to be keeping the focus on building anticipation rather than showing extensive gameplay.
This year’s G-STAR lineup underscores Nexon’s intent to both expand its current franchises and introduce new genres to its roster. With a mix of established franchises and fresh entries, the company’s 2024 releases may indicate how Nexon plans to diversify its portfolio and explore broader market opportunities.
