Krafton, Makers of PUBG, Announces New "NFT Metaverse Platform" With NAVER Z

Another day, another NFT announcement from a gaming company. This time its Krafton, the South Korea gaming company behind Elyon, and PUBG (Playerunknown's Battlegrounds). Krafton announced today that they're working on an "NFT metaverse platform" in partnership with Naver Z (which runs ZEPETO, a social virtual world with 290 million s worldwide).

Krafton will be handling the development of the metaverse and its NFT elements while Naver Z will manage the service and its community.

“This partnership between KRAFTON and NAVER Z is bolstered by each company’s unique expertise and shared global focused as they look toward a future driven by NFTs and metaverses,” said HyungChul Park, Lead of Web 3.0 team at KRAFTON. “By combining KRAFTON’s existing technologies and research on how to build scalable Web 3.0 creator-driven ecosystems with NAVER Z and ZEPETO’s experience and capabilities, we’re confident we can build a high-quality UGC-driven open metaverse that stands apart from other services and vitalizes the global creator economy through NFT technologies.”

Ever since Facebook changed its name to META the term 'metaverse' has been all the rage. Just about any online virtual world is being referred to as a 'metaverse' now and even Habbo got in on the fun by launching their own NFTs late last year.

NFTs will play a key role in this Krafton's new metaverse project, but they're a little light on details right now. My guess is it'll be a lot like Second Life with players deg and selling cosmetics to each other, but they'll be re-branded as NFTs as its way sexier that way.

Not much is known about this new project but given that the folks behind ZEPETO are going to be running the service, a video showing off ZEPETO seems appropriate:

Welcome to ZEPETO
