Elite Dangerous Kicks Off Odyssey Alpha Test On March 29

Elite Dangerous players to boldly go where no player has gone before is close at hand as the Odyssey PC alpha test kicks off on March 29.

“The Elite Dangerous galaxy’s rich setting and open-ended design reaches a new level of depth thanks to Odyssey’s feet-on-the-ground gameplay,” said Frontier Developments in their latest press release. "Introducing the detailed scale that is needed for on-foot gameplay while maintaining the vast distances measured in light years and the myriad missions available to players, Odyssey will greatly augment the already rich world of Elite Dangerous, offering a more personal experience for all Commanders to enjoy in their own way, in addition to the vast galaxy they can already explore.”

Odyssey was initially scheduled to come out early this year but developer Frontier Developments decided to delay the launch to late spring to make sure that the expansion “meets the highest standards.” The expansion’s console release, however, will be delayed much longer, with a release window slated for autumn 2021.

In the meantime, Frontier continues to stir up hype with a new video showing off one of the missions from the expansion.

“All three Commanders in the incursion team are specially equipped for their assigned role, selected from the wide range of space suits, weapons and equipment available in Elite Dangerous: Odyssey. Their tactical gear grants them an edge in their assigned tasks, whether it is to infiltrate the base avoiding detection, lay down covering fire if the alarm is raised, hacking, or quickly extract their teammates from a tight spot if enemy forces overwhelm them.”

You can watch the whole mission playthrough just after the jump. More information can also be found on the Elite Dangerous official site.
