Electronic Arts Lays Off An Undisclosed Number Of Employees At F1 Studio Codemasters

2023 has unfortunately turned out to be the year of video game layoffs, with multiple companies succumbing to the financial pressures and challenges sweeping across the industry. The year isn’t over yet and its claimed even more victims as Electronic Arts lays off an unknown number of employees from F1 racing game developer Codemasters.

“Our business is constantly changing as we strive to deliver amazing games and services that keep our players engaged, connected, and inspired,” an EA representative told IGN. “At times, this requires the company to make small-scale organizational changes that align our teams and resources to meet evolving business needs and priorities. We continue to work closely with those affected by these changes, providing appropriate throughout this process.”

Codemasters has been in the racing game business since the late 1980s and is now one of the leading developers in the genre. The studio was acquired by EA for $1.2 billion in 2021 in hopes of turning it into the go-to studio for racing games. Over the years it’s built up several well-known racing game franchises, including the aforementioned F1, Grid, and EA Sports WRC. Codemasters is also the studio behind the 25th (!) Need for Speed game, Need for Speed: Unbound.
