Climate Change-Focused Social MMO Eco Gets A Big Upgrade With Update 10
Climate change MMO simulator Eco just got a “massive upgrade” as it nears its sixth year in early access. Developer Strange Loop Games rolled out Update 10 earlier this week which introduced a wide range of new features and mechanics that significantly expanded the game’s core gameplay loop.
Players can now establish towns and countries, and come together to form multi-country federations, all of which add more depth to Eco’s community and social systems. Maintaining them, however, will require players to juggle resource and border management, diplomacy, and other factors that come into play when running your own town or country.
The beefy update also introduced the ability to build coastal structures, four different kinds of boats, and opened up sea trade. The update also made improvements to world generation so that ores now accumulate in veins and plants grow in groups, as they do in the real world. That’s in addition to the tech tree changes, recipe balance tweaks, and revamped power generation and consumption mechanics.
But wait, there’s more! Update 10 also added new cultural elements, Twitch integration, face tracking, and a long list of fixes and general gameplay adjustments. You’ll find the extensive patch notes on the Eco Steam page if you’ve got a bit of time to dive into the details.
