EA Will Be Shutting Down Online Services For Hundreds Of Games By January 2023

A few months ago, Ubisoft announced that it was decommissioning online services for some of its older titles. Despite complaints and delays, the studio eventually pushed through with the plan earlier this month. EA will soon be following suit, as it announces that it will also be shutting down online multiplayer services for most of its classic titles.

The list includes hundreds of games across PC, consoles, and mobile, including multiple Battlefield, Command & Conquer, Dragon Age, FIFA, Madden, Need for Speed, and EA Sports titles (DLCs and expansions included). According to EA, the extremely small number of players still actively playing the games to be decommissioned isn’t enough to justify the cost of operating the online multiplayer servers.

“As games are replaced with newer titles, the number of players still enjoying the games that have been live for some time dwindles to a level – typically fewer than 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles – where it’s no longer feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping the online services for these games up and running,” the publisher explained.

EA will be shutting down online services in batches starting this month until January 2023. You can check out the expansive list of sunsetting games here.
