Funcom Unveiled Dune: Awakening’s First Official Trailer Along With A Good-Sized Info Dump

Funcom has released the first official trailer for Dune: Awakening during its 30-minute-long showcase yesterday. The trailer sums up everything that we know about Arrakis from the parade of YouTube shorts and TikTok videos that the studio has been rolling out over the past few months and then some, conveniently packaged into a stunning cinematic experience.

“Rise from survival to dominance on the most dangerous planet in the universe. Arrakis is a test that few humans survive. Dune: Awakening combines the grit and creativity of sandbox survival games with the social interactivity of a large, persistent multiplayer game to create a unique and ambitious Open World Survival MMO.”

Aside from the trailer premiere, creative head Joel Bylos also talked up the game’s core gameplay loop and building system. It’s the same system and engine used by Conan Exiles but with significant improvements and changes made outside of the obvious visual and asset differences. This includes holographic plans that allows multiple players to work together on a communal design.

Another key difference is the importance of water in the survival MMO. As in the books and the movies, water will be crucial to a player’s survival in the desert planet of Arrakis and will often require players harvest dew or resort to more extreme measures like drinking an enemy’s blood. We strongly advise against drinking blood in real survival situations though, just in case you get any ideas.
