Chronicles Of Elyria Dives Deep Into Gathering And Resources In The Latest Dev Update
Chronicles of Elyria and Kingdoms of Elyria. He also explains how they plan to diverge from the “one-man economy” systems found in typical MMOs.
“Economic roles or professions in Chronicles of Elyria have long been divided up into four archetypes: Explorers, Gatherers, Producers, and Champions. These four archetypes fulfill each stage of an adventurer-driven economy. The explorers are responsible for finding resources, gatherers are responsible for harvesting and processing the resources, producers are responsible for turning the resources into products, and the champions consume the products for use in adventuring.”
According to Walsh, they’re putting as much care into deg crafting and trade systems as the game’s other key features. “We want resource gathering and production to be as enticing as adventuring,” he said.
Both games will feature the same basic system, although Kingdoms will offer a less hands-on approach compared to the original game. “In Chronicles of Elyria, players use tools to interact directly with the objects of the world around them to obtain raw resources. Whether that’s using a spile to get sap from a tree, a knife to cut off the bark, or an axe to cut it down,” explained Walsh.
“KoE does the same thing, but rather than having you swing an axe specifically, you instead instruct your character to go chop down a tree, gather bark, or pick apples using the interface; the game's AI does the rest,” he added.
Walsh goes on in length about the mechanics of gathering and processing resources as well as the different types of resources and materials available in both games.
While it all looks good on paper it’s the execution that counts in the end, especially since Soulbound has been talking the talk for a few years now but have yet to deliver a working game aside from a poorly-made pre-alpha obstacle course last year.
