Celebrate Diablo's 20th Anniversary By Returning To Where It All Began
To celebrate Diablo's 20th anniversary, the next patch—titled The Darkening of Tristram—will send players back to the universe of Diablo 1. And to get your nostalgia churning, the Diablo 3 team has released a preview video that you can watch below.
For the month of January, experience an homage to the original events of Diablo, brought to you in glorious RetroVision™ and filled to the brim with nostalgia-inducing features. An evocative audiovisual extravaganza awaits you, as everything from familiar enemies to iconic items have been brought to life in the Diablo III engine. Transmogrification rewards, achievements, and a handful of extra surprises lurk in the depths of this perilous, pixelated dungeon.
Gloruous Retrovision puts a pixelated filter over your game screen, and player movement will be locked to eight directions. Even the sound has been tweaked to better reflect games of the nineties: repetition.
Can't wait to beat on the Butcher again.
Of course, this is a patch so its not just a Diablo 1 nostalgia celebration. Numerous items have been altered, and class sets are being reworked, which you can read about in the 2.4.3 patch notes, along with changes to Greater Rifts and quality of life improvements.
Will you be rolling through some classic Diablo 1? I will.
