Avalon Corp. Announces Work On A New Blockchain Metaverse MMO Called Avalon

Another startup studio with a pedigree and a huge bankroll is looking to grab their own piece of the blockchain pie. Avalon Corp., a studio led by Sean Pinnock and former Sony Online Entertainment producer Jeffrey Butler, has announced that its working on a yet-untitled MMO metaverse mashup.

The company, however, isn’t calling it a metaverse per se and prefers to use the term “inoperability” instead. Big-name brands will apparently be able to set up shop in the shared Avalon universe to peddle their wares through a blockchain platform. The studio also promises to make the game accessible to everyone through the use of AI technology.

“We want a young person, an inexperienced game developer, or an experienced developer to be able to easily create a triple-A quality experience in weekend with their friends,” CEO Sean Pinnock told VentureBeat.

Like Raph Koster’s Playable Worlds, Avalon is being backed by investors with huge wallets, including capital investment firms, cryptocurrency platforms, and video game magnates such as Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin and former Pearl Abyss CEO Robin Jung, who invested $13 million on the project in a recently-concluded funding round.
