Asmongold And A US Senator Agree To Discuss Options To Regulate Microtransactions
Pay-to-win business models have been a hot topic of late following the release of Diablo Immortal with its money-grabbing monetization scheme. The issue has apparently caught the eye of U.S. Senator Ted Cruz and is looking to setup a roundtable meeting to discuss it thanks to the efforts of popular streamer Asmongold.
According to Dot Esports, Asmongold reportedly ed the Senator Cruz’ office to talk about the possibility of making pay-to-win microtransactions illegal. The senator said that he was “happy to engage in a conversation” and mentioned his own experiences with video game microtransactions. He, however, itted that changes on the federal level or government intervention might not be plausible.
“I’m open to hearing arguments on this. I’d like to not see kids exploited and harmed, and so I’d be interested in his views,” Asmongold quoted the senator.
One True King, Asmongold’s streamer group, confirms that the roundtable talks will be pushing through although they failed to share any details of the meeting.
It’s worth noting that the U.S. government has tried to intervene in the matter in the past, with multiple attempts to legislation to regulate lootboxes and microtransactions which ultimately came to a dead end.
