Airship Syndicate Suffers Layoffs As It Gains Full Control Of Wayfinder
Airship Syndicate is the latest studio to be hit with layoffs this year as Tencent-subsidiary and Warfame developer Digital Extremes ends for their external teams. Anonymous sources revealed that at least 20 employees were laid off from Airship Syndicate and Digital Extremes’ other third-party projects.
“We can confirm we have made the difficult decision to cease operations of our external projects division,” Digital Extremes told Polygon. “We have had to say goodbye to a number of hardworking and highly valuable team as a result.”
The same sources also revealed that Digital Extremes has completely cut ties with Wayfinder and has pawned off the early access MMORPG to Airship Syndicate. The Warframe studio failed to elaborate on how many employees were affected by the layoffs but it seems to be part of its ongoing restructuring efforts which saw studio founder and CEO James Schmalz replaced by Steve Sinclair back in October.
Whether this will have any significant effect on Airship Syndicate’s promise to fast-track progression changes in Wayfinder remains to be seen.
