Worlds Adrift Working To Remedy Lopsided PvP System

Ironing out the kinks in PvP is an arduous process at best, especially with a unique PvP-centric-floating island-slash-ship-building MMO like World’s Adrift. Closed Beta players were quick to point out that defending parties were almost always at a disadvantage when it came to PvP. To balance things out, Bossa Studios will be making a number of tweaks, adjustments, and additions to the PvP system.

As part of the new anti-boarding mechanics, the grappling system will be reworked to make boarding enemy ships more difficult. Players will now also need to break into containers to gain access to loot to increase the risk for looters. In addition, the team is also working on Swivel Guns which players can install both on their ships and on the ground to form a defensive line within the shipyard dome. The shipyard dome will now also double as a shield against projectile damage and will prevent attacking players from grappling into the dome forcing them to attack on foot and making them prime targets for your swivel guns.

The Personal Reviver will also be reworked to force ships to come closer and engage in ship-to-ship battles. They will now have a charge which will be depleted every time a player more than 50 meters away revives on them. More charges are consumed the farther away players are from the ship when they die. When the charges are depleted, every revive will cause damage to the entire ship.

These are our current proposed changes, and as always we’d love to hear what you, our players, think,” says Game Designer Luke Williams. “PvP balancing will always be an ongoing process, and these features will be tweaked based on and playtesting and as a result make it into the game at various points over the coming months, but now’s your chance to have your input and let us know if we’re heading in the right direction!”

Aside from swivel guns, players can also incorporate a variety of defensive structures into their islands. Check them out in the Island Creator gameplay video after the break. You can also head over to the Worlds Adrift dev blog for more info on the PvP changes.
