Valorant Marketing Head Says Partner Streamers Aren’t Being Paid

Riot Games’ shooter Valorant broke the Twitch record for the most number of hours watch in one day for a single game. Twitch streamers raked in a total of 34 million hours on April 7th and peaked at over 1.7 million concurrent viewers even though the game is still in a limited closed beta.

The record-breaking numbers can be attributed to Riot’s marketing campaign that gives players a chance to earn a closed beta key by simply watching any Valorant stream on Twitch. Riot partnered with hundreds of competitive shooter streamer including some of the most popular players in the genre.

So what do the streamers get in return? In an interview with Engadget, Head of Marketing Nikki Lewis says that monetary compensation isn't part of the deal. “During closed beta, we have not paid any streamer to stream Valorant,” said Lewis. “Our goal is to sustain a community for years, even decades, to come, and so our efforts are being put toward building a long-lasting relationship with streamers, looking for things that are of value where we can the businesses they are trying to build.”

In exchange for helping market the game and giving the developers much-needed , partner streamers not only get access to closed beta, they also get in-game perks, free games, networking opportunities, promotional , developer access, and the chance to be included in reveals.
