Tower Of Fantasy’s PlayStation Port Won’t Have Cross-Play Leaving Devs Frustrated
Between video game developers and publishers, it’s usually the publisher who has the bigger say in what happens to a game since it’s their money that’s on the line. While I’m no expert in video game development, I’d like to think that publishers at least clue developers in on their plans and don’t just leave them in the dark, like what Tower of Fantasy developer Hotta Studio.
Perfect World had apparently decided to port the anime-themed gacha MMORPG over to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 with no cross-play for both PC and mobile without giving Level Infinite the heads up. Naturally, this has left the dev team feeling a bit frustrated.
“Upon learning this news, we immediately ed the Perfect World Company to clarify and they confirmed that Tower of Fantasy will be released and operated as a stand alone version of the game on the PlayStation platform,” said Hotta Studio. “While we wish that the PlayStation version was not an independent journey for Tower of Fantasy players, we will do our best to continue to optimise our PC and mobile gaming experience and deliver new and engaging content for you to enjoy.”
Unfortunately, it looks like there’s nothing that Hotta Studio can do about it, as they revealed on Twitter, “Regrettably, the PS version will be an independent journey for Tower of Fantasy.” Ouch.
