Frost Giant Studios Kicks Off Equity Crowdfunding Drive For Multiplayer RTS Stormgate
Indie developer Frost Giant Studios is looking to secure additional funding for its multiplayer real-time strategy game, Stormgate, by launching an equity crowdfunding campaign. For those unfamiliar with the term, equity crowdfunding allows ers to actually invest in a project and earn money based on its performance rather than making a donation in exchange for in-game perks or physical merch.
It’s worth noting that the game is already well-funded thanks to a $2.38 million Kickstarter campaign and $35 million more in investment from venture capital firms. As of this writing, Frost Giant has now raised an additional $290,000 from equity investors via StartEngine on top of the $2.4 million that its raised through IndieGoGo.
“Until recently, most major games were funded by large game publishers who assume creative control over key decisions such as monetization fairness and release timing,” Frost Giant said. “Instead, Frost Giant is partnering directly with the community to self-publish Stormgate in the West, empowering the developer to retain creative control over the game.”
“This initiative offers ers the opportunity to invest in Frost Giant Studios and directly benefit from the potential success of Stormgate, slated to release to Early Access in Q3 2024,” the studio added. “Public investment in Frost Giant Studios through StartEngine is available to accredited and non-accredited investors, with a minimum investment of $494 is required for this Reg CF offering, with a company valuation of $150M.”
It goes without saying that huge funding doesn’t guarantee a game’s success nor does it guarantee that investors will see a return on their investment, as in the case of MMORPGs failed miserably and have since been sold off to other studios with none of their investors ever seeing a penny back and no way to hold the original developers able.
