Palia Nerfs Celebration Cake Profits And Rebalances Every Other Food Item
Patch 0.169 is finally live in Palia after a short delay, bringing with it some very welcome changes and some not-so-welcome ones.
The update introduced a bunch of new cash shop outfits, a new emote, new recipes, running water animations for player houses, the ability to destroy your crops, housing addon UI improvements, and a revamp of the Grimalkin Underground zone that added a new space for players to hangout in. Additionally, crops now grow even without the need to visit them every game day, just as long as you’re online.
Unfortunately, developer Singularity 6 has also decided to nerf several food items with a particular focus on reducing the profits from Celebration Cakes. “Seeing how the community has come together to embrace what would come to be known as Cake Parties was truly a sight to behold,” the studio said. “Celebration Cakes were simply just too profitable. Based on the data we saw, it wasn’t just outscaling every other dish — Celebration Cakes were making more profit than with any other gold-generating activity, in any skill, by a large margin.”
To ensure that the in-game economy remains balanced, Singularity 6 has tweaked the value of butter and milk and reduced the sell values of all cooking dishes by 25%. The developers also hit food items with a balance which included a mix of improvements and nerfs.
“We hope these changes will really set a good foundation for Cooking moving forward, especially when done with friends,” the team added. “Our goal is for there to be a variety of recipes to choose from, so that it’s Cooking Parties, not just Cake Parties. You can also be on the lookout for new recipes coming soon that we hope will be just as fun and worthwhile to cook. For now, though, Celebration Cakes still reign at the top — just not as high as the tower they were on before.”
Singularity 6 also said that they’re considering other ways of monetizing the game but will be sticking to selling outfits for the time being. “We need to make money to keep developing Palia and have it be the game that we (and our players) dream it to be. Selling Outfits is currently the only way we are making that money, so expect this to be the case for a while. Of course, we are always open to considering other ways to monetize based on from our players,” the studio said.
