Blizzard Scraps Overwatch 2 PvE Content Because ‘It’s Too Hard’

In a surprising twist for Overwatch fans, the long-awaited sequel, Overwatch 2, may not live up to its initial promises. During a recent Blizzard livestream focused on the game's roap and future plans, game director Aaron Keller and executive producer Jared Neuss dropped a bombshell: a significant portion of the planned PvE content for Overwatch 2 has been scrapped due to the amount of effort required to make it a reality.

“We can’t deliver on that original vision for PvE that was shown in 2019,” itted Blizzard. “What that means is that we won’t be delivering that dedicated hero mode with talent trees, that long-term power progression… those things just aren’t in our plans anymore.”

While the developers assured players that some story missions would still make their way into the game, the entire foundation of Overwatch 2, as announced, rested on the ambitious PvE features. This revelation has left the community reeling, with Reddit now a hotbed of disappointment and complaints.

Prior to Overwatch 2’s release, Blizzard promised a whole host of new features for the popular hero shooter, which included a revamped business model, visual enhancements, and PvE content. Those ambitions, however, have since been significantly scaled back.

Blizzard had previously stoked excitement among fans by hinting at an earlier-than-expected release of PvE content. But when the most recent season arrived with underwhelming PvE offerings, it only added fuel to the fire of discontent among the player base. Expectations were high, but the reality fell far short of what was promised.
