Old School RuneScape Reveals New Skilling Mini-Game Called Giants’ Foundry

Runecrafting mini-game came out on the classic MMORPG.

According to the team’s latest Q&A stream, the new Giants’ Foundry mini-game (although they’re deliberately not calling it that) is designed for Smithing enthusiasts to give them a much-needed boost to their skill training and make the exercise much more entertaining. The idea is to forge various items based on keywords given by an NPC. Getting the keywords “Heavy” and “Broad”, for example, would require you to use molds that are labeled with the same characteristics. You’ll then have to smelt the required resources, or items that contain the resources, and forge it into the finished product.

The entire process will require you to go through multiple steps and use different tools depending on the quality and complexity of the item being forged. Players will gain roughly 6K XP upon completing the item which takes around 7-10 minutes.

The mini-game is recommended for players between level 30-70 and will prioritize earning XP over in-game currency since you’ll have to supply your own resources. It also won’t be an AFK activity but won’t require players to be hyper-focused either.

The team also revealed that the Giants’ Foundry is the first step to a full rework of Smithing, which they it doesn’t have as much variety in activities as Woodcutting and Mining.

“The Giants' Foundry is the first, and the small one of the two updates - we were given six weeks to get something out, and Smithing was one of the areas that was lacking in content,” said the devs. “We saw Smithing as a good opportunity and a bridge to fill in. With six weeks we can only do so much, but from doing this piece of content we have come up with more ideas on how to actually approach smithing, to give it a proper rework, which is huge!”

You can find out more about the Giants’ Foundry mini-game in the Q&A summary on the Old School RuneScape official site. You can also check out the full Q&A stream below if you have time to kill.
