Niantic Is Shutting Down Harry Potter: Wizards Unite In Early 2022
In a move that will make Vernon Dursley proud, Niantic has announced that Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be November 18th.
The announcement doesn’t come as a surprise as augmented reality games have significantly dipped in popularity since the pandemic started. This is on top of unaddressed issues in Wizards Unite like bugs and overly-complicated gameplay mechanics. Niantic, however, maintains that the game had a set lifespan right from the get-go.
“Not all games are meant to last forever. Our goal with Harry Potter: Wizards Unite was to bring the magic of the wizarding world to life for millions of players as they stepped outside and explored their neighborhoods. We accomplished that together, delivering a two-year narrative story arc that will soon complete.”
The team will be setting the stage for the conclusion of the game’s storyline over the next few months which will include new content, more in-game events, and changes to the existing gameplay. In addition, players will also be receiving various bonuses starting today including a boost to Daily Assignment rewards, reduced potion brewing times, unlimited gift sending and opening, and increased Portkey, Spell Energy, and Ingredients spawns.
Players can also look forward to the release of the remaining Lethal Adversaries, including Dolores Umbridge, Lucius Malfoy, Bellatrix, and Voldemort himself.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be removed from Google Play, Galaxy Store, and the App Store on December 6th but players who have the app installed will still be able to play until closing day.
