New World Rolls Out Eternal Frost And Winter Convergence After A Short Delay
Holiday festivities have officially begun in roughly a days’ delay. The update was supposed to roll out on Tuesday but was delayed as the team worked to fix an unspecified issue that popped up during internal testing.
The update is now live (albeit with a few hiccups), marking the start of the open-world MMORPG’s Winter Convergence holiday event, a new seasonal story arc that revolves around the Silver Crows and a power-hungry Knight of the Round Table, and the opening of the Glacial Tarn expedition.
Conspicuously missing from the update is the cross-realm group finder which was removed from the 2023 development roap last month for more work and polish.
“[…] When we talked about cross-world expeditions, which was planned for season four, we really wanted to lean into it and go for a full PUG finder because we think that would be a much better experience for players. And that’s going to cost us a little more time,” Game Director Scot Lane explained.
The studio also shot down hopes of a console release, at least for the time being. “Unfortunately, we have no current plans to release New World on consoles. If this changes, we will be sure to let you all know.”
In the meantime, Winter Convergence celebrations are now in full swing. Scot Lane offers some background into the festival’s lore here. If you haven’t watched it yet, it’s definitely worth checking out if only for the novelty of seeing the game director as a Muppet. You’ll also find the Eternal Frost launch trailer below.
