Elite Dangerous Odyssey Update 5 Introduces Shared Missions And More Improvements

Frontier Developments has rolled out Update 5 for Elite Dangerous: Odyssey, the recently-released on-foot exploration expansion for the sci-fi space simulation MMO. Headlining the massive update is the new Shared Missions feature, which, as the name suggests, allows players to share any Odyssey mission with their teammates. Here’s how it works:

“All of the missions added in Odyssey can now be shared with your teammates. Players who are in a team will now see a 'share' button on any Odyssey mission transaction entry. Clicking the 'share' button will share that mission with all current teammates. Teammates have the option to accept or decline this invitation. Once a shared mission is accepted, that player will see the mission's contents in their transaction and continue to get updates as the mission progresses.”

To compensate them for the trouble, all teammates who participate in the shared mission until completion will be eligible to earn the same rewards as the player who initially picked up the mission. Reward options for teammates, however, are limited to credits, reputation, and items, and will not include Influence-related rewards.

Teammates who get critically injured during the shared mission will not cause the mission to fail. Mission-critical items held by the downed teammate will subsequently be dropped on the floor and can be picked up by another player. Mission-specific items acquired during the shared mission will also be automatically moved to the mission owner’s inventory when the teammate holding it leaves the mission area or boards a ship.

Aside from Shared Missions, Update 5 also introduces several new quality-of-life features and improvements, including updates to the Outfitting UI flow, ship cockpit lighting, and neutron star brightness settings. The update also makes AI crime scanning more lenient, increases the chance of finding rare materials at fumaroles, and improves terrain fidelity on planet ports and Horizon settlements.

There’s also a long list of fixes and improvements to existing systems. The extensive patch notes can be found on the Elite Dangerous Odyssey official forums. The team talks about Update 5’s contents at length during this week’s episode of SuperCruise News. You’ll find the full episode right down below.
