Elite Dangerous Deliberately Overlooks Tiling Issue Due To Resource Constraints

Fixing known issues is usually at the top of a video game developer’s list of things to do, especially when it ruins the gameplay experience for players. Some that aren’t as pressing are, more often than not, placed on the backburner until the team has time or manpower to work on it. One such issue is Elite Dangerous when viewed in low orbit, which developer Frontier Developments has deliberately chosen to overlook as it’ll take too much time and resources to fix.

“After spending some time to observe the effects of the issue while weighing-up the costs to resolve it, we have decided to focus those resources elsewhere,” said the team.

“Reducing or preventing the tiling effect would require a deep-overhaul of fundamental systems, which in turn would disrupt other aspects of the game,” they added. “This would inevitably take time away from developing and improving other elements such as performance, bug fixes, and new content. We cannot justify this level of change and a re-generation of the galaxy in Elite.”

The team says that it’s unlikely that the decision will change in the foreseeable future and the issue has been closed along with a promise to deliver “the best possible experience for the highest number of players which our current focus allows us to do.”

The general population seems to be content with the decision although there have been a few jabs at the team to address issues that can be fixed along with calls for new content.
