Diablo Immortal Officially Launches On Mobile And Open Beta On PC

Do you guys not have phones? Because you’ll need one to play Diablo Immortal which has officially launched globally with the exception of a few countries in the Blizzard Entertainment could have hoped with just a few minor issues and last-minute patches affecting the PC version which launched into open beta alongside the mobile versions.

For a game that spawned a meme when it was announced, Diablo Immortal seems to have been received quite well by the general community aside from complaints about its microtransactions. According to Ars Technica, the game is riddled with in-app purchases that toes the line between pay-for-convenience and pay-to-win.

Legendary Crests, for example, can be purchased using real-world money and are used to enter a randomly-generated dungeon with guaranteed rewards. The amount and quality of these rewards is based on the number and type of Crests that the players wager, for lack of a better term, before entering the dungeon. Alternatively, players can also use normal Crests which can be earned through normal gameplay.

The game also makes use of several other forms of currency which can be earned in-game or purchased with real-world money with a few clicks of a button. Players can also purchase lockboxes, bundles, materials, and a 90-day VIP subscription of sorts called “Boon of Plenty” that grants additional inventory and market trade slots and remote access to the Marketplace. Subscribers can also claim Crests, Gems, and other currency via the daily rewards.

As for the Marketplace, it functions a bit like Diablo’s controversial Auction House except that players no longer have to bid over items and trading is limited to items and materials only. Weapons and gear aren’t allowed. Players, however, will still be able to set arbitrary prices for their items and Blizzard will still get a “commission” from each transaction.

Diablo Immortal is now available on June 22nd.
