DC Universe Online Announces Episode 40: World Of Flashpoint Launch Date

DC Universe Online players will get to experience one of DC’s most epic storylines when the World of Flashpoint episode launches on April 15. As you can probably guess, the episode is inspired by the Flashpoint narrative and will transport players to an alternate timeline where they’ll meet twisted versions of several of the Justice League.

“In this expansion, Flashpoint Batman (Thomas Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s father), Emperor Aquaman, Flashpoint Wonder Woman, and more are desperately fighting in a falling world. Atlantis and Themyscira are at war. A violent Batman embraces his darker side, seeking vengeance for his family while protecting a somehow-even-more-crime-riddled Flashpoint Gotham City.”

World of Flashpoint will also feature Heat Wave as a boss fight and will also introduce a Doomsday encounter in the open world.

“[. . .] This episode represents only a small slice of that entire epic,” said Dimensional Ink Senior Community Manager Ted Stone. “Your Super Hero or Super-Villain will experience the realities of this timeline and witness some of the most essential moments and challenges while striving to set things right.”

In a controversial move, Dimensional Ink announced last week that the World of Flashpoint will be permanently free for all players regardless of whether or not they have a hip subscription. The announcement is part of the studio’s plans to remove paywalled content and update hip perks.

“As we look to this Summer, we are planning a major hip update, and right now we want to explore a world where our content is not gated by purchase,” the studio said last week. “We want to see how this works for World of Flashpoint and for you, and we also don't want to sell you an episode now and then give it away to everyone a few months later. We absolutely understand that access to all episodes is an important part of the value of hip, and that this will be ed for in our hip update if we continue in this direction.”
