Bungie Awarded $4.3 Million In Arbitration Case Against Destiny 2 Cheat Maker
Bungie has won yet another multi-million dollar legal battle against Destiny 2 cheat makers. Well, partly won anyway. The studio has just been awarded $4.3 million in damages and fees as part of a string of lawsuits against AimJunkies and its parent company Phoenix Digital.
The judge presiding over the arbitration process found the cheat maker, specifically one of its third-party developers named James May, to be in violation of anti-circumvention provisions, trafficking, breach of contract, tortious interference, and more.
“May testified that on many occasions, he connected reverse engineering tools to the Destiny 2 process in order to reverse engineer it and develop a cheat for the game,” said Cox. “He also testified that after being caught and banned by Bungie several times for doing so, he attempted various ways to by the bans and circumvent the protections Bungie had in place to prevent reverse engineering.”
Cox also ruled that Phoenix Digital is also liable for May’s violations since it knowingly sold the cheats on its website.
The copyright infringement part of the lawsuit against AimJunkies is still ongoing with trials scheduled to start later this year.
